As we get closer to launching our Kickstarter on Wednesday, April 15 for The End Is Probably Almost Nearly Here, I want to introduce you to the extraordinary location we’ve found to shoot the film: the beautiful Schönow Castle in Brandenburg, Germany.
Schönow Castle is a striking neo-Gothic castle built in the 1840s in the historic Uckermark region north of Berlin. The estate has passed through several fascinating chapters of history—from the Von Sydow family in the 18th century to later owners such as chamberlain Gustav Karl Kieckebusch and World War I general, Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck. The region itself has deep European roots: even Catherine the Great lived nearby.
After World War II, many castles in the Uckermark were repurposed during the East German years. Schönow Castle was eventually turned into apartments and a farm cooperative. In 1991, a devastating fire left it abandoned. In 2015, ex New Yorker, Brendan Flynt purchased the castle and began restoring this elegant landmark.
The atmosphere, history, and mysterious aura of Schönow Castle make it a perfect setting for my comedy: a dinner party where the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
You can view photos from the Castle here.
Next week, we’ll share all the exciting rewards in store when we launch the Kickstarter campaign!
Thank you for being part of this adventure.
